It's common for supplements to be exposed to elevated temperatures while in transit, especially during the warmer months. In most cases, exposure to heat during shipping does not make a product unsafe to consume.
Momentous ships products to customers around the world every day, and our products are formulated and packaged with these conditions in mind, including exposure to higher temperatures that can occur during transportation and delivery. While no supplement should be stored in extreme heat for extended periods, heat exposure during transit is generally anticipated as part of the shipping process and does not occur for long enough to have an adverse affect on the product or it's efficacy.
What happens when supplements get hot?
Depending on the product, heat exposure may cause some noticeable physical changes, including:
- Softgels becoming softer or sticking together
- Powders becoming clumped or compacted
- Capsules becoming slightly more pliable
These changes do not necessarily indicate that the product has lost its effectiveness or is unsafe to use.
What if my package was left outside?
If your package was delivered and remained outside in the sun for a short period of time, the product is typically still suitable for use.
However, prolonged exposure to extreme heat—such as being left in a hot vehicle or direct sunlight for multiple days—may affect the product's appearance, texture, or quality.
How should I inspect my product?
When your product arrives, check for:
- Broken seals
- Leaking softgels or capsules
- Excessive melting
- Significant discoloration
- Unusual odors
If none of these issues are present, the product is generally suitable for use.
What should I do if the product looks damaged?
If your product shows signs of significant heat damage, such as leaking softgels, melted chews, broken capsules, or other sensible quality concerns, please contact us and provide photos of the product and packaging.
This will allow us to evaluate the condition of the product and determine the best next steps.
